I read this book without reading any of the rest in the series, since the synopsis claimed it could be read as a stand-alone. It can in the sense that each book focuses on a different couple, but the series contains a larger plot thread which continues from book to book. As a result, older events are sometimes referred to and not knowing what had happened earlier caused me a bit of confusion at times. Also, there are so many characters and two dragon clans (I think) and it was hard to figure out or keep straight who was what.The story of Kyra and Royce was not satisfying to me. Royce and Kyra, but particularly Royce, had extremely repetitive thoughts for the first half of the book, when he was wanting his mate yet refusing to accept her. Then Royce has a sudden change of heart -- too sudden. We should have seen him slowly find out more about Kyra and have his prejudices eroded or his fears ebbing, but since from the start he said he knew she was pure and kind and good, there wasn't room for that. I needed more dialogue between the couple, to see them getting to know each other better and building trust.
So the romance fell flat for me, and I'm not sure if I'll read anything else in this series. It's a pity because I love reading about dragon shifters.

I can’t help but say it…Julia Mills’ latest book is the best yet. “For The Love Of Her Dragon” takes us farther into the Dragon Guard world. Royce O’Reilly retreats to his old home with the Blue Thunder Clan of the Dragon Shifters to try to wrap his head around a precious gift from the Universe – his One.
Why would he need to? Because his Great Love revealed by Fate is Kyra St. Croix, a white witch. When he was young, Royce’s mother and unborn sister were killed by a white witch trusted by the clan. The oldest and largest of the elite fighting force protecting mankind and dragons alike, he trusts NO witch now and can’t understand how this could be happening to him. His brothers, Rian and Rory, nag at him daily for not claiming his mate, but they didn’t witness the murder like Royce and weren’t scarred by the event.
Kyra is in the dark about Royce’s experience and his extreme distrust against all witches. But when a vision shows a vicious and deadly attack against Blue Thunder is imminent, the Dragon Guard need Kyra’s help to battle the dark magic of the familiar foe behind it. Their close proximity doesn’t help matters when the tiny, powerful witch discovers Royce’s attitude, and one or both may die before they have even have a chance at their prophesied destiny.
The first three books were a dragon trifecta, but the fourth is a reader jackpot. We get more conflict and action, more dialogue, more history - more, more, more! We get the biggest and the baddest dragon of the fighting force united with the tiniest tornado of a white witch in a fantastic and phenomenal book. Best of all, we get even more dragons to dream and drool over as we anxiously anticipate a new book in the Dragon Guard Series. Readers may need to engage a bold taskmaster with a whip to prod Julia Mills along with the next one!
